Today’s question is ✨ are weight loss pills safe? ✨
The answer is no. Weight loss pills are not safe.
When I was 22 years old, I had an experience that left me feeling so devastated.
I felt so insecure in my body that I wanted to take some pills.
These pills promised the world that would change my body exactly the way I wanted to.

I remember going on the website, doing my research, putting the things in my cart.
I was going to spend the little money I had on these pills.
Well, I didn’t purchase the pills.

And the reason I didn’t purchase the pills is the same reason that I feel that weight loss pills are not safe.
And I do say I feel because I am talking from my own personal experience.
Before I go any further, I should introduce myself.
My name is Kola. Just like Coca Cola.
I am Certified as a Personal Trainer, Nutritionist.
I am a wife, I am a mom, and I’m just here to help out.
Are Weight Loss Pills Safe? – Reason 1
The first reason why weight loss pills are not safe for me is they make me feel uneasy and uncomfortable.
And I know that the scientists amongst us are like,
“what? Uneasy?!”
“A lot of things in life are uneasy”.
But, for me, I have never regretted not taking a pill that made me feel uneasy.
If I am thinking about taking a supplement, using a moisturizer, eating something…
And I just feel uneasy with it, that is a very good piece of information to pay attention to.
Safety of Weight Loss Pills – Reason 2
The second reason is kind of related to the first.
And it’s that all these weight loss pills tend to manipulate our hormones in order to get their work done.
This is not a thing that I play with.
I don’t play around with anything that’s going to manipulate hormones.
A lot of weight loss pills won’t say that they’re manipulating hormones.
They would say that they’re helping you manage your appetite – so you don’t feel hungry.
Or increase satiety so feel full or on less food.
But how do they do those things? Most times, by manipulating hormones!
Anyone that has experienced hormonal imbalance will tell you that it is an awful experience trying to rebalance.
Any kind of imbalance in our hormonal system creates potential for internal chaos.
Especially if you’re a female of a certain age.
Messing with hormones is not a game.
I repeat, it is not a game. 😅
I have experienced hormonal imbalance.
The process of rebalancing hormones is long.
I do not recommend it. Zero stars.
Reason 3: Side Effects of Weight Loss Pills
Which leads me to my next point.
The side effects of weight loss pills are actually quite mad.
You know how they do these ads.
Where the side effects casually include death? And you’re like 😲
That’s how it is with some of these weight loss pills.
Some of the side effects are so extreme, that they might actually require medication.
So imagine taking a weight loss pill, trying to lose weight.
And then requiring additional medication to deal with the side effects of taking the weight loss pills.
For me, that just sounds very long.
Reason 4
Moving on to the next point.
In the US, our insurance system is not that great.
The amount of money required to,
- finance or pay for the weight loss pills
- pay for any health issues that come out of taking the weight loss pills
- purchase the medication to deal with the side effects of taking the weight loss pills.
It’s like, girl, I have other things to do with my money.
I can be buying organic food.
Or maybe a few coach purses. 😄
I could be paying for hotels in Chicago.
Side Bar…
I feel like I might be sounding a little bit insensitive.
Because the people that are trying to take weight loss pills are usually in a very vulnerable emotional state and would do anything.
It reminds me of how I felt when I wanted to take those pills to change my body when I was 22.
I remember being very, very, very, very, very, very distraught.
I was crying my eyes out, looking at the pills.
Spent all this time reading the side effects while thinking of my bank account.
I was doing everything in tears on the floor.
I was quite dramatic about it, I have to admit 😂
And even then, the grace was available to me to be like,
You know what, girl? Use your brain.
Get up off of the floor. GET UP! LOL
I say that to say that I hope I don’t come across as insensitive.
And at the same time, this is just my point of view.
It’s not Bible.
So you can do you at the end of the day.
Are Weight Loss Pills Safe? – Reason 5
Another reason why I consider weight loss pills to be unsafe is because they require long term use.
These are not pills that we can just take for four – eight weeks or whatever, and then have permanent results.
Weight loss pills are actually something that will need to be taken permanently for life.
That just sounds like a huge responsibility because why?
Especially when they come with these huge side effects.
It doesn’t sound sustainable.
And anything that’s not sustainable is probably not for me.
Reason 6
Which moving on to the next point.
A lot of these weight loss pills require diet and exercise.
It’s giving placebo.
Because why do I still need to diet?
ps: not “diet” as in drink only tomato soup for a week. I mean, eat right and exercise.
Why do I still need to eat right and exercise when I’m taking these weight loss pills?
They don’t help us avoid eating right.
They don’t help us save time that we will spend exercising.
So, like, what are they doing?
Some of them will claim that they make the process faster.
Well, how much faster?
The time is going to go by anyway.
So what’s the rush?
That is a big factor for me actually.
Because if I’m taking these pills and I’m paying this money,
I’m gonna need the pills to do ALL the work and also buy me some designer clothes. 😂
Are Weight Loss Pills Safe? – Reason 7
The other reason why they’re not safe for me, or I should say more accurately, not worthwhile for me, is this.
The benefits I gain from eating well and doing a workout are far and beyond anything that losing weight from taking a pill can ever do.
For me, the
- confidence
- sense of accomplishment
- feeling of well-being
- physical strength
- energy
- sense of doing something for myself
Tthose things are priceless.
They can’t be measured on any kind of scale.
And they transfer into other areas of my life.
These benefits carry on into my work. How I am able to show up for you reading this right now.
They carry on into my friendships, how I show up.
They carry on into motherhood. How I mother and parent my child.
They show up in my marriage. The way I show up in that relationship as well.
It literally shows up in everything.
Are Weight Loss Pills Safe? TLDR (summary 🙂)
- Weight loss pills are not safe from my point of view.
- Weight loss pills can manipulate hormones and cause hormonal imbalance.
- The side effects of weight loss pills can be extreme and require additional medication, which is expensive.

Are Weight Loss Pills Safe? – more specific details to consider
Firstly, weight loss pills can have negative side effects on your body and can be harmful to your health. Some of the common side effects associated with weight loss pills include headaches, nausea, dizziness, and even organ problems.
Secondly, weight loss pills can be expensive, and the cost can quickly add up, especially if you are taking them over a prolonged period of time.
Third, many weight loss pills are not regulated by the FDA, which means that they may contain harmful substances that can be dangerous to your health.
Fourth, weight loss pills can interfere with other medications that you may be taking, which can lead to negative interactions and further health problems.

Even while taking weight loss pills, proper nutrition and regular exercise are still a must.
In conclusion, while weight loss pills may seem like an easy and quick solution to losing weight, the potential risks and negative side effects make them a risky choice.
It’s always best to focus on making healthy lifestyle choices instead of relying on pills or supplements.
